I wonder if you can help me with a very special request. I recently made a commitment to More Than Just Mountains to help raise money to increase awareness about cystic fibrosis (CF)—a life-threatening genetic disease. I made this commitment because my niece, Dalaney Vickrey, has cystic fibrosis. To increase that awareness and raise funds I am going to climb the 7 Summits in her honor to help find a cure. The 7 Summits are the highest mountain peaks on each continent. Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa will be the first mountain I will climb and I will finish with Mt. Everest.
You may or may not know that cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disease that affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Just two generations ago, most children with CF didn’t live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, nearly half of people with CF are age 18 or older. Impressive progress has been made, but so much more needs to be done, as we continue to lose precious lives to this disease every day.
Here’s my request, November 12-26, 2013 I will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, to raise money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through More Than Just Mountains. As a participant, I have committed to raise $20,000 this year. Today, I am asking you to help me reach my goal by supporting me with the necessary equipment to successfully climb the Seven Summits. Your support will help increase awareness and lead to more CF research and medical programs. This will help to find a cure for Dalaney Vickrey, and all children with the disease.
Please consider making a donation of $50, $100, $200 or whatever you can afford. You may make your check payable to the “More than Just Mountains” and send it to me or you can also support me by making a donation online: simply go to www.mtjm.org/#!more-than-just-mountains/ciz5 and click on ‘Donate Online’. Lastly, you could help me reach my goal by making a donation of essential gear or by helping defray the cost of climbing these mountains through financial contributions for airfare and other expenses necessary to successfully climb the Seven Summits. All donations are tax deductible.
I would like to reach my goal by December 31st, 2013, but, of course, I will be grateful for any and all donations received after that date as well since this will be an event that takes place over several years.
I appreciate your support and generosity and I will keep you posted on my progress.
